Through the lobbying of ICTI and support of the University of
Wollongong, I'm pleased to announce that Wollongong will be hosting
the next 'Public Sphere' event on Friday 28th August, 2009.
What is Public Sphere?
Public Sphere is an event sponsored by Senator for the ACT, Kate
Lundy. She is passionate about technology and has embarked on a series
of public consultation events that use technology - such as Webcasts,
Twitter, live blogging, etc - to allow as many people to participate
as possible, regardless of their location. The first two Public Sphere
events, held in Canberra, focused on the potential of high speed
broadband for Australia and 'Government 2.0'.
What is this Public Sphere all about?
The topic for the Wollongong Public Sphere will be the Australian ICT
& Creative Industries Development.
The objective of this consultation is to identify areas where
government policy can be developed or enhanced to better facilitate
the growth and development of these industries in Australia. The day
will have specific time and discussion allocated to the following
industry segments:
Web 2.0 and mobile
Creative industries
Infrastructure and architecture
As well as extending an invitation to attend this Public Sphere, all
members of the ICTI community in the region have the chance to
participate directly in the outcomes of this Public Sphere by either
volunteering to give a 10 minute talk or by contributing through the
many other online mechanisms available.
